My approach

I believe that a trusting, collaborative, therapeutic relationship is the key to you achieving your goals through counselling.

I don't use a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy as I believe this is limiting and wouldn't recognise the individual needs of my clients. I do take a person-centred approach putting you, the client as the focus and the very centre of the therapeutic relationship. However I am flexible and adaptable in my approach to help you get the most from your counselling.

Being able to form a partnership where you feel safe and supported, is often the starting point for you to be able to understand and work through the difficulties you may be facing and the range of emotions these challenges may bring up.

It's my belief that everyone is the expert in their own world and that my role as a counsellor, is to be alongside you as you explore this world, safe in the knowledge that I will be there, without judgement and without an agenda of my own.

I won't direct you in what you should talk about, allowing you to determine the direction and content of the sessions. I will however help you focus in on thoughts and emotions that seem significant and support you as you challenge negative beliefs that may have been holding you back for years.

The aim is to find and address the root causes of the issues you are facing, as this lays the foundation for lasting change.

Sessions

Sessions last for 50 minutes and are delivered face to face in my comfortable, counselling suite. Click here to see where I'm based.

If travel or mobility is an issue, I do offer Zoom or MS Teams sessions and am happy to offer advice in setting this up.

If we agree to work together, I will arrange a short, initial session where we can meet each other and go through the client - counsellor working agreement. This agreement outlines the ways of working, our agreed session day and also gives you information on the BACP ethical framework that I work within.
